M4S HITS UNIMELB!

Hey Guys,

WOW, what a week! There has been some crazy weather at Melbourne Uni's Parkville campus this week but Team M4S Unimelb fought through heavy rains to deliver our message to campus folk. This week, our first week on the job, was devoted to getting the word about M4S out there on campus and postering and distributing brochures in as many places as possible!

To start off we hit "The Spot" - the home and heart of Commerce & Economics at the University of Melbourne and a huge building full of classrooms, student lounges and offices. The perfect building to plaster as many posters promoting The Financial Review as possible! We covered the lifts, eating areas and student lounges through seven levels of the building! We definitely caught the eye of students studying in the building...




Later in the week we hit main campus where postering rules are slightly more complex. The only zones available for everyone to advertise on are the various advertising columns placed around the uni grounds so these were our next target! We went all out plastering the columns in busy student areas with information on M4S, however we learnt the hard way that Melbourne Uni's Socialist Alternative Society are not a very forgiving bunch - we simply turned our heads for a second and they were removing our posters from a column!!!

Although we were attempting to play the role of Switzerland in UPW1 (Uni Poster Wars 1) and choose areas where we would cover the least room from other posters as possible, it did not seem that the Socialist Alternative Society were keen to negotiate... so much for diplomacy! We have learned this lesson and will choose our areas more wisely next week!

Finally, we also targeted the libraries on campus this week, displaying brochures and handing them to students in study areas. We then went around to all the student union stands handing out Farrago (the official Student publication at Unimelb) and we slipped M4S brochures inside all of the Farragos we could get our hands on! - We thought that students picking up and reading this magazine would be interested in picking up and reading other magazines at fantastically discounted prices....

What a busy first week we have had!! Look out for our posting next week, things are only going to get bigger for M4S at the University of Melbourne.. expect T-shirts, whiteboards, student BBQs and lecture announcements. Bring on UPW2 (Uni Poster Wars 2)!!
