Despite some terrible rainy weather in the normally sunny Queensland earlier this week, we were able to get through loads of postering and whiteboarding! We began targeting the business buildings and then expanded to the whole University and any notice/white boards we could find near main laboratories, lecture and tutorial rooms!
UQ, being a rather conservative university, meant we met many obstacles including being turned away by the Union, Clubs and Societies, Faculties, Student Services and Security while attempting postering, chalking, lecture announcements and organising stalls/activities. Yet! We managed to get student help on campus (shoc) to display brochures and have contacted the careers centre about displaying more brochures.
The weather really came through for us on Wednesday so that we could spread the word of Magazines4Students. We roamed around the university during lunch hours giving away brochures. Any cautious students we found, we were able to entice with lollipops and by engaging them in conversation about their hobbies or studies. Interest in M4S certainly has increased since last week.
Our biggest highlight of the week is definitely the steadily growing QLD wide M4S Facebook page. Banding together with our fellow QUT and Griffith Uni’s means that by next week our message will be reaching a much larger audience and we can make announcements of our activities all week!
